Letters To The Editor

My computer freezes up all the time while I am on the internet, what is going on and what should I do when this happens?

While you are on-line.

First, make sure that your operating system and browser is up-to-date.  For Windows Users, Go to Start and Click on Windows Update.  Once there, click on product updates.  This process may take 5 or 10 minutes while Microsoft evaluates what updates are needed and available.  Install all critical updates and review recommended updates for installation.  I do not recommend installing the most current Browser IE 6.0 until it is proven to be stable, 5.0 or 5.5 should be good.

Second, if your browser is crashing often on the internet, check to see if you have a browser repair tool.  Go to Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information.  Once there, click on tools and look to see if the Browser Repair is there and execute repair only.  This tool may not be available for  all versions of Windows.

Third, I recommend that you buy Norton or McAfee Utilities programs to help keep Windows running smoothly.  These programs help to resolve many complex program issues.  Learn to use these programs appropriately.  Don't try to do too many different things too soon.  Fixing Windows Problems, Check the Disk for errors, Defragging, and Optimizing Programs should be sufficient initially.
